ASSOS & TROY - 8 HOURS
You will be welcomed by your private guide at Canakkale port and drive to our first stop Assos. Assos is the site of the Archaeological Institute of America's first excavations, directed by Francis Bacon in the 1880s. The city; where Aristotle lived in and St Paul visited to set sail to Holy Land, was founded in the 700s BC by colonists from Lesvos. St.Paul and Luke rested in the city while on their way from Troas to Mitylene. As early as the 5th century BC it struck its own coins, and its coinage system continued until 235 AD. One of its early rulers or tyrants was Hermeas, a eunuch, once a slave, who gave his niece in marriage to Aristotle. There, the great Greek philosopher lived three years, from 348 to 345 BC.

After exploring Assos, you will visit Troy which holds an enduring place in both literature and archaeology. The legend of the Trojan War is the most notable theme from ancient Greek literature and forms the basis of Homer’s Iliad. There has been much scholarly debate as to whether mythical Troy actually existed and if so whether the archaeological site was the same city; however, it is now almost universally accepted that the archaeological excavations have revealed the city of Homer’s Iliad.

You will leave the city of Troy and transfer back to your cruise ship.

GALLIPOLI - 6 HOURS
You will be met by your private guide at Canakkale port and drive to city center. Here we will take a ferry to cross Dardanelles.

Our first stop will be Anzac Cove, which was the landing site for Australian and New Zealand troops in the Gallipoli Campaign in World War I. The Australia and New Zealand Army Corps landed at a small bay north of Kabatepe on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915. Troops were evacuated in December 1915 and January 1916. Turks lost 300,000 men and the Allies around 214,000, achieving only the diversion of Turkish forces from the Russians.

Kabatepe War Museum, original tunnels and trenches at Johnston Jolly, the Nek Cemetery, Chunuk Bair New Zealander Memorial, Lone Pine Australian Memorial and Brighton Beach will also be visited before returning to Canakkale by ferry and transfer back to the port.
